New data shows emerging workforce trends

March 14th 2024

Skills for Care has launched new workforce data dashboards. They focus on quarterly changes to international recruitment and local recruitment and retention challenges.

The new data shows that international recruitment is bringing even more people to work in adult social care this year than in 2022/23 when a total of 70,000 care workers were recruited from abroad.

The trends in recruitment and retention give an indication that the starter rate is increasing on last year’s 33.7% and the turnover and vacancy rates for the sector are decreasing.

Publishing trends like these is only possible because care providers give data in the Adult Social Care Workforce Data Set (ASC-WDS). By using the service, you can join over 20,000 care providers who make their voice heard and help shape adult social care. There are also lots of other benefits for care providers using ASC-WDS.

The Department of Health and Social Care, NHS England, central government, local authorities and integrated care boards use this data to fund and support the sector. Staying up-to-date with emerging trends will help them make decisions which respond to the needs of care providers.

Will Fenton, Head of Analytics at Skills for Care said: “Decision makers in the sector have told us how useful it is to have frequently updated data, so we’re pleased to produce these insights quarterly. With employers relying more on international recruitment over the last year, the new international recruitment dashboard will help Government and other stakeholders understand changes in the supply of the workforce.”
