Staff from across social care gathered in London last night to celebrate the Women Achieving Greatness in Social Care (WAGS) awards. Over 85% of the social care workforce is female, and the WAGS aims to inspire women leaders of tomorrow and provide a platform of support, empowerment and real change for the sector.

We were delighted to see our Project Lead for Digital Social Care, Katie Thorn, win the Woman in Tech Award for her outstanding contributions to digital innovation in adult social care. Katie works tirelessly to champion and support digital engagement in social care and the team are very proud of her. Here is a snippet of the announcement:

“An expert in cyber security and data a protection, Katie has made a tremendous impact to the sector in her 3 and half years at Digital Social Care. Heading schemes around education, digital solutions, and the roll out of iPad technology to care homes, she is keenly aware of the importance of technology to care work. She is one to watch in the sector, and an admirable woman in tech.”

We were also delighted to see Melanie Weatherly take home The Lifetime Achievement Award. Melanie sits on the Better Security, Better Care programme board and project team, utilising her vast knowledge and experience to contribute to the programme which has been paramount to its development. Here is what was said about Melanie:

“A dedicated and passionate individual, Melanie has spent her working life improving the state of Adult Social Care and the lives of the most vulnerable in society. With a particular emphasis on the Digital Awareness agenda, she is also clearly committed to a forward thinking and innovative approach to the sector’s challenges. Her contribution to Social Care can be described as nothing short of exceptional.”

We extend a very big congratulations to all the finalists and winners of the evening. Thank you for all of your hard work and incredible achievements for social care. Visit the WAGS website for a list of winners and kind words spoken about each of them.
