What cyber security support do care providers need?

What cyber security support do care providers need?

September 27th 2024

The Care Provider Alliance (CPA) and Better Security, Better Care are working together to identify the current data protection and cyber security arrangements and future support needs of care providers.

All adult social care providers in England are invited to answer a short survey about how they currently protect information, what they consider to be the future challenges, and what advice and support could help them.

More care providers than ever are using digital systems to store, process and share information – leading to real improvements in decision making about care. Ensuring that information is securely stored and shared is critical.

Speaking about the survey, Vic Rayner, Chair of the Care Provider Alliance said:

“We’ve seen a rapid increase in awareness of cyber security issues within our sector, and more providers taking steps to secure their data, thanks largely to the work of the Better Security, Better Care programme. But also, unfortunately, as a result of high-profile cyber incidents which have affected software systems used by the NHS and social care.

“We know our sector needs more support to stay on top of this issue, and we are keen to help. That’s why we are asking all our members, and other care providers, to complete this short survey about future needs. Good data protection is essential to our sector – it should not be viewed as a ‘nice to have’ option.”

Summary findings from the survey, which also covers paper records, will be published later this year.

Deadline for responses: Extended to 25 October 2024.

Care providers can complete the survey here.
